How We Build a Parking Structure in Oshawa
Work from engineered drawings
The structural engineer designs the deck slabs, reinforcement, mix specs and load paths; we work from those drawings and confirm our pour plan against them before any forming begins.
Form decks and stage rebar
Suspended deck forms are set with the engineered camber, rebar is placed with the specified cover depth and corrosion protection, post-tension cables are installed if the structure is post-tensioned, and the layout is verified before concrete is ordered.
Pour the chloride-resistant mix
The concrete mix is air-entrained, low-permeability, with corrosion inhibitors as specified for the structure's exposure. It is placed, consolidated, and finished to the deck slope so meltwater sheds rather than ponds against the slab.
Seal and hand off maintenance plan
The deck is sealed with the specified chloride-resistant sealer once cured, the maintenance and reseal schedule is documented, and the structure is handed back with the long-term care plan in writing.

A parking structure built correctly will last decades if maintenance happens on schedule. Sealer reapplication every few years, joint inspection annually, and prompt repair of any spalled spots together keep chloride out of the reinforcement and the structure performing.

Yes. Structures use lower-permeability, chloride-resistant mixes with corrosion inhibitors and more reinforcement protection. Ground-level lots take chloride exposure but the rebar is less critical to building structure; in a deck, rebar corrosion is structural failure.
Penetrating silane or siloxane sealers and traffic-bearing membrane systems are common, depending on the deck spec. Reapplication every few years is typical in Oshawa because UV and freeze-thaw wear sealers faster than in milder climates.
